3D Graphics & Animation (YAP II) Class is Full

Picture yourself at Pixar? Dreaming of a career with Dreamworks? This class taps into the fundamentals of visualization sciences and allows students hands on experience in the field of graphics and animation. Using the latest technology and cutting edge software applications, students will learn advanced techniques in 3D programming, illustrative artistry, storyboard modeling, studio design, and graphics rendition to make their computer creations come to life!


Architecture: Designing Cities of the Future (YAP I)

Cities — so familiar to us, where most of us live, work, and play — are the least understood of all creation. What do cities do? How do they work? How do they get to be the way they are, and where they are going? Be a part of a design team that explores how professionals in diverse fields (city planning, architecture, civil engineering, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering, construction, business, etc) participate in the continuing evolution/creation of these complex living systems. Along with your team, design and build your own City of the Future!


Attending Texas A&M University (YAP III)

Do you want to be an Aggie? This class will give you the information that you need to discover, apply, and (hopefully) get accepted to this fine institution. Meet with top staff members from the admissions department and learn exactly what to focus on in your last years of high school to improve your college application. Talk with individuals from the scholarship and financial aid departments to learn what money could be available for you to use to help pay your tuition. Learn about Texas A&M's honors program and see how you can continue to challenge yourself academically in your major and degree plan. And, learn all about "The Spirit of Aggieland" through a full campus tour and participation in a real Aggie Yell Practice. This class has it all and will give you the information you need to become a Fightin' Texas Aggie!


Business: Advertising & Marketing (YAP II)

Think you have what it takes to be a real genius in the advertising world? Learn about the different aspects of the marketing mix,radio and television ads, print media design, logo development, and more! Develop your own ad campaign and work with real-world advertising pros to learn what marketing is really about!


Computer Design (YAP I)

Explore techniques and applications used in computer graphics and animation. Discover the range of software and hardware available for producing these materials. Learn some of the techniques used in multimedia today. Create your own self-running programs and learn how to put them on the web. You will use graphics, animation, photos, and sound materials from current popular multimedia software.


Engineering (YAP III) Class is Full

Interested in a career in Engineering? This class will devote a day to each of the principle departments within the College of Engineering here at Texas A&M University. Learn the "pillar" principles behind structural design in civil engineering. Be a "rocket scientist" as you learn about jet propulsion and satellites through your time in Aerospace Engineering. You'll be "shocked" at the knowledge you'll gain learning about circuits and power through your time with Electrical Engineering. And conclude your week in Mechanical Engineering with high-tech LEGO labs designed to give the individual student a glimpse into the fundamentals of the engineering design process and a field trip to the SAE Formula 1race car test track to see mechanics in motion. See the inner-workings of this fascinating field through your participation in this hands-on program.
Strong High school course background in math (through algebra II) and science recommended.


Investigative Forensics (YAP III) Class is Full

True to the nature of the forensics fields, students will learn to use anthropological, biological, chemical, and mechanical procedures to analyze a crime scene and determine the nature and cause of a crime. Trace evidence collection techniques (dusting for prints, shoe tread and type, document analysis, etc.) will be combined with advanced criminal techniques (blood splatter analysis, black light technology) to help students work on a realistic crime scene in which students must piece together all the evidence towards the goal of cracking the case!


Law School (YAP II)

Do you want to become a lawyer? What does it take to get into law school? What is law school like once you get there? What do real lawyers do? Take a tour of the courthouse and sit in on a live trial... explore the concepts of law and justice... participate in a mock trial of your own while being judged by legal professionals! Learn ways to think, speak, and write like a lawyer on challenging issues.


Medicine (YAP III)

Are you interested in Medicine? What does it take to get into medical school? What is it like once you are there? What are the different medical specialties and what do physicians in those areas do? What other careers are available in medicine other than that of a physician? These and many other questions will be explored in this program. Learn about physical diagnosis. Learn to read an x-ray. Do hands-on dissections to learn anatomy. Interact with medical professionals. Here is your opportunity to explore the field of medicine and help determine if a career in medicine is right for you!


Performance Theater (YAP II)

Like performing on the stage? Want to learn more about it? Want to actually DO it! Come and explore directing, playwriting, and acting in our Theater class. The world is your stage as you rehearse and perform in an ensemble theater piece. All students will participate in all facets of the production, which will culminate in an end of the week performance. (Cost: $999.00)
This class runs for 9 days, from Friday, July 18 – Saturday, July 26


Photo / Journalism (YAP III) Class is Full

Expose yourself to the principles of photography and photojournalism while hitting the highlights and headlines of print journalism! Learn the fundamentals of article development, interview techniques, writing tips, design, layout, copy editing, and press assembly. Learn why a picture really is worth 1,000 words as you visually capture some of A&M's most famous landmarks using different photography methods. All of this work will culminate in the publication of a class insert that will appear in the Texas A&M student newspaper The Battalion.


Physical Sciences (YAP I)

Are you "magnetically" attracted to the world of Physics? Care to "mix" it up with some "elements" of Chemistry? This class highlights all of the scientific aspects that "matter" in our everyday life. Students will be exposed to exciting laboratories and demonstrations while being introduced to the sciences that they will take as they progress through their middle school and high school careers.


The Science of Nature (YAP II) CLASS CANCELLED

Want to grow your understanding of the biological principles that guide this budding area of earthly interest? Through the hybrid merging of the fields of agriculture, botany, and horticulture, we have engineered a class that will allow students to get down to the roots of the field while getting their hands dirty. Learn about plant cloning and genetic finger printing, and enter our very own "little shop of horrors" with carnivorous plants and plants that rise from the dead!


Television Communication (YAP I)

Learn what it takes to work behind the scenes or to be "on the air" at a Television Station. Speak the lingo and get hands-on experience with studio cameras, audio boards, switchers, and teleprompters. Find out why it takes teamwork to produce and air a show. Visit settings other than television studios in which people work with video every day. Produce your own commercial advertisement, scripted, filmed, edited, and directed entirely by students.


Veterinary Medicine (YAP I & YAP II) Class is Full for YAP I

Are you interested in working with all creatures, great and small? Maybe you think you are more interested in animal research as a possible career. It takes a veterinary medicine degree to enter these careers and others. This program will introduce participants to what it takes to get into vet school, what it's like once you are in, and what career options you have once you get out. Participants will meet with admissions committee members and staff, current students in the professional curriculum, and veterinarians involved in areas of veterinary medicine such as small and large animal practice, food safety, and research.
